Church of the Capuchins

The church of Capuchins is another significant historical monument in Pondicherry. The church of Capuchins is another splendid example of French influence. Of the risings of churches during the 17th and 18th century the Church of the Capuchins was one amongst the many churches that gained significant importance in the Christian community. The Church has certainly lost a lot of its charm and glamour but still remains a place of religious importance that lures believers to meditate and seek solace.

The Church of the Capuchins is amongst the first to be built and is also situated at Rue Dumas along with other French influenced churches in Pondicherry. The church has survived the test of time and has emerged like a phoenix from the ravages of 1761. It is one of the oldest churches in Pondicherry.  Presently the church witnesses pilgrims and tourists who visit the church to meditate and offer their prayers. The church also houses an orphanage. The Church is another splendid structure that displays the artistry and refined masonry of the French Colonialism.
